In order to function smoothly, LATITUDE depends on a number of Lab Assistants. These volunteers support LATITUDE by helping DIY lab users, maintaining the lab space and equipment, and providing administrative and production support on a day-to-day basis. Generally, Lab Assistants work one eight-hour shift per week. In return, Lab Assistants receive general training on LATITUDE's equipment, specialized training on particular items, and (after training is complete) access to the lab to work on their own projects. While working on their own projects, Lab Assistants ink usage and membership costs are waived

LATITUDE is a community space, and the Lab Assistants are a key part of that community. The offer of dedicated access, professional training, and the opportunity to work directly with our artists in residence have helped us connect with a number of amazing people over the years. Our Lab Assistants are interested in gaining advanced technical knowledge, and may be  of any age or background in or outside of academic programs.  We accept applications from potential Lab Assistants on an ongoing basis!

Lab Assistants will be trained in:

Drum Scanning
Imacon Scanning
Piezography Printing
Mural Printing
Color Managed Workflows
File Management using Adobe Lightroom
Advanced Adobe Photoshop Techniques

Did we mention Lightroom? We love Lightroom.

If you are interested in potentially coming on board as a Lab Assistant, please send a CV and a brief email about your interest to applications@latitudechicago.org.

Current students may be able to receive credit for their participation in the Lab Assistant program, please check with us or your institution for details!
