LATITUDE is excited to announce its fourth OpenED Program for 2018!

About OpenED: LATITUDE’s mission has always included a focus on shared education. In an effort to expand our educational opportunities, LATITUDE hosted an open call for educational programming proposals in the fall of 2017. From this open call LATITUDE will be running five pieces of public programming proposed by emerging local artists and scholars, and developed alongside LATITUDE staff.

AfroSpace is a reading and discussion group led by Jamillah Hinson. From Black aliens in Harlem to a Zambian space race, AfroSpace: Afrofuturism in Film and Pop Culture, will dive into the history of afrofuturism in Black cinema and culture. Intertwining films, readings, and sound experiences, this community learning experience will discuss and experience the ever changing face of SciFi and Fantasy as seen through the eyes of the African diaspora.

The group will meet bi-weekly on Thursdays from 6 - 9PM starting July 12th & ending on September 6th.

Space is limited to 12 participants so grab your spot early!
