COURSE DESCRIPTION:

Abstract art has a long and deep history. Whether you’re talking about cameraless photograms, capturing abstraction in real life, or creating an abstract scene, there is a massive world of possibilities without literal depiction.

How do we talk about abstraction? How do we critique abstract images we see? How can you push your work further and deepen your understanding of this rich history? All of this and more will be talked about with a group of your peers while we view your submitted work to help you develop and continue to grow among the community!

There are only 10 spots available, so make sure to sign up asap!

Tickets are General Admission $30 or on a sliding scale starting at $10.

The event will take place on Thursday, Jan 29th, 2026, from 6:00-8:30 pm at Latitude.

Participants are expected to submit 1-5 images to education@latitudechicago.org no later than January 25th at noon CST.

These images will be projected for group discussion. Feedback per participant will be limited to 8-10 minutes.

Ash Huse

Ash (They/Them) joined Latitude as a lab assistant from 2018-2019 and joined as Interim Deputy Director in 2024 and became Education Coordinator in 2025. As a queer lens-based artist Ash's body of work surrounds LGBTQ+ identity through portraiture. Their work also explores themes of queerness, transformation and mental illness through abstract and experimental photographic methods using music software, text/hex editing and rephotographing images on screens. They obtained their Bachelor's Degree in Photography at Columbia College Chicago and their MFA in Fine Art Photography at Columbia College Chicago.

Refund Policy: For all LATITUDE courses, full payment is required to reserve your spot in the class. If you need to cancel your reservation for any reason, LATITUDE can provide a 100% refund for cancellations made 10 days prior to the start date of the course. Cancellations made with less than the 7 day notice will be given a 100% lab credit. Cancellations made within 72 hours of class run will be given a credit for 50% of the purchase price which can be used for any lab purchases, including re-enrollment, in the future. No refund for cancellations made on the start day of the course and will be considered a donation to the space.
