Rediscover the Art of Seeing in Black and White — A Family Friendly Critique Group

Step into the timeless world of black and white photography in a welcoming, family-friendly critique group designed for artists who are passionate about light, shadow, and storytelling. Whether you're shooting film, working digitally, just beginning your grayscale journey, or refining a signature style, this space is made for you—and your little ones, too.

This group is an invitation to grow your artistic voice while connecting with a community of thoughtful, creative peers, many of whom are also balancing caregiving and making.

Children are welcome in the space!

What to Expect:

  • Constructive, respectful feedback to help you grow

  • Themed challenges to spark creativity

  • Thoughtful discussions on technique, composition, and visual storytelling

  • A supportive community of artists who understand both the creative process and the juggle of parenting

Participants are expected to submit 1-5 images to education@latitudechicago.org no later than September 12th at noon CST . These images will be projected for group discussion. Feedback per participant will be limited to 8-10 minutes.

This is a sliding scale program. The instructor will receive a base rate or 50% of the profits, depending on enrollment and payments, whichever is greater.

Space is limited to 10 participants total so grab your spot early!

Anwulika Anigbo

Anwulika Anigbo (b. Nigeria 1987) is a Chicago-based artist tracing the historical and somatic roots of everyday life as it is practiced within blackness through imagery and processes. Anwulika’s work documents and investigates self-determination, presence, knowledge production, and memory. Working primarily with 35mm film, archival images, textiles, and silk screen, Anwulika’s work pushes towards a reworking of Igbo art and meaning making in an expanded historical and global context. 

Her work has been exhibited at The Czong Institute for Contemporary Art (South Korea), Chicago Artist Coalition (Chicago), EXPO Chicago with FOR FREEDOMS (Chicago) and the NXTHVN (New Haven), Anderson Ranch (Aspen) Photoville (New York). Her billboard with FOR FREEDOMS was recently published in For Freedoms: Where Do We Go From Here?, By Hank Willis Thomas, Eric Gottesman, Michelle Woo, Wyatt Gallery, and taylor brock. She was recently the 2024 March AIR at Latitude, the 22-23 Artist in Residence at Chicago Athletic Association, a 21-22 Artist in Residence at the Chicago Artist Coalition, and a 2022 3Arts Ignite Fund Awardee. Her work is included in the collection at 21c Museum, Ryan Lee Gallery, and private collections

Refund Policy: For all LATITUDE courses, full payment is required to reserve your spot in the class. If you need to cancel your reservation for any reason, LATITUDE can provide a 100% refund for cancellations made 10 days prior to the start date of the course. Cancellations made with less than the 7 day notice will be given a 100% lab credit. Cancellations made within 72 hours of class run will be given a credit for 50% of the purchase price which can be used for any lab purchases, including re-enrollment, in the future. No refund for cancellations made on the start day of the course and will be considered a donation to the space.
