General Guidelines

We expect DIY users to have recent experience and/or working knowledge of the equipment they intend to use within one year (exceptions are flatbed scanners or Creo which include same-day orientation). DIY Users should be comfortable working independently.

Be honest about your experience and comfort printing. While our staff and lab assistants will provide some support which may include double checking of settings, general troubleshooting, and answers to quick questions, they will not be able to provide one-on-one, undivided attention outside of a tutorial setting. Reservations are not required to use equipment in the space but are strongly preferred so we can ensure availability of the equipment you intend to use. Walk-ins are given priority at the next available slot for a given piece of equipment pending equipment availability.

Reservations made in advance are guaranteed for a 4 hour block of time, either 10am-2pm or 2pm-6pm. Evening blocks are available for 3 hours from 6pm-9pm on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursdays. Extensions to your reservation are not guaranteed and made at the discretion of the staff on a case-by-case basis. If you are more than an hour late to your reservation without advance notice your reserved equipment may be relinquished to walk-in clients or other lab needs.


House Rules

Leave your workstation and equipment as you found it.

Show respect towards our Staff, Lab Assistants, lab space, and equipment.

Clients may not leave their assigned printers unsupervised while printing.

You’re welcome to bring liquids in covered containers to your workstation but liquids or food of any kind are not allowed in the production environment or near the printers. Food and drink can be enjoyed in our kitchen or lounge space.

As a DIY user you’re expected to be comfortable working independently. However, don’t hesitate to ask questions if you have them! We’re more than happy to give quick refreshers and check settings and the like, but individualized attention that exceeds 30 minutes will be considered excessive assistance.

Clients who require excessive assistance during a DIY appointment will be charged the full tutoring hourly rate of $50 if staff or a tutor is available at the time of their appointment, otherwise they will be asked to reschedule at a time when a tutor is available.


Disclaimers


General

LATITUDE is not liable for any loss or damage that may occur to DIY users’ materials while working in the lab. This includes, but is not limited to: photographic film, artist originals, printing substrates, hard drives, and digital files.

Clients are responsible for taking their belongings upon completion of their reservation. LATITUDE is not responsible for any materials left behind. This includes, but is not limited to: photographic film, printing substrates, artist originals, hard drives and digital files. Files left on LATITUDE’s server or desktops are deleted regularly, with desktops being cleared nightly. Please maintain personal backups of your files.

DIY Users are not permitted to produce prints or scans of work that is not original to the present user. This includes, but is not limited to: producing scans or prints on behalf of a non-present third party, producing scans or prints of work you do not retain exclusive legal rights to, and producing scans or prints of a third-party’s original content for profit. Production of work that is not original to the present DIY user is subject to LATITUDE staff discretion. LATITUDE retains the right to cease production of non-original works by DIY users at will.

Use of LATITUDE’s WeTransfer to maintain personal backups of your files, for reasons including but not limited to: leaving your hard drive or computer at home, failed or corrupt drives, etc. is not a right and is granted at the discretion of the Lab Staff. Use of a standard WeTransfer account is at the discretion of the DIY user and we cannot guarantee a successful transfer after the completion of your reservation. DIY users are expected to bring an external hard drive or thumb drive to transport their files to and from LATITUDE computers. Thumb drives are available for purchase if needed.


Printing

Prints with user-related errors that are more than 50% completed from the printer are the responsibility of the DIY user. User-related errors include but are not limited to sizing, resolution, and incorrect printer settings. Prints with errors that exceed the 50% completion rate will be charged at the full cost of the ink and paper used. If Staff is notified before the 50% completion rate, the paper and ink will not be charged for that print.

Clients are responsible for monitoring their prints for banding, head strikes, incorrect orientation, and major color issues, and cancelling before 50% completion if these are observed. Prints that exceed 50% completion will be charged at the full cost of ink and paper used. If Staff is notified before the 50% completion rate, the paper and ink will not be charged for that print.

Failed prints due to equipment error or malfunction will not be charged, and what constitutes equipment error or malfunction is at the discretion of Lab Staff.


Scanning

Scans to be left to run overnight unsupervised are approved at the discretion of Lab Staff and are on a case-by-case basis.

Negatives left to scan overnight (past the last shift of the day in an unsupervised manner) will be charged a $25 overnight scan fee, with the expectation that the user will return promptly the next morning to retrieve their originals. Originals left in the space regardless of duration are subject to the general disclaimer regarding taking belongings upon completion.


Payment

Payment policies for DIY users: Payment for Daily Membership can be paid using cash, check, and credit card. Payment must occur in full for DIY usage upon completion of users reservation. Credit card refunds take 2-3 days to process. We can not give partial refunds. If you desire a refund we can either offer lab credit, send you a check, or refund the whole amount to the original payment method and re-charge the proper amount.
