Open Call: Art as Therapy
Deadline | Friday January 5th, 2018
"...it's not an image I'm seeking, it's not an idea. My goal is to relive a past emotion. My art is an exorcism, and beauty is something I never talk about....the subject of pain is the business I am in - to give meaning and shape to frustration and suffering. The existence of pain cannot be denied. I propose no remedies or excuses." - Louise Borgeois
Submit to our latest open call, “Art as Therapy,” juried by our upcoming January Artist in Residence, Jackie Furtado! Selected artists will have the opportunity to display work in LATITUDE’s Open Gallery space and have their images featured in our online gallery.
In this open call we are searching for those who find catharsis through their image making. How do you use art to understand yourself and the world around you? How do you find art to be useful as a therapeutic tool, in your personal practice, and in your daily life? Share your images and your stories with us!
- Up to 5 images sized at 72 dpi in JPEG format
- Longest side of the image sized no more than 1800 pixels
- A brief artist bio and statement (200 words limit)
- Title and year for every submission
- A brief explanation of how your work relates to the theme.
To submit work or questions, email all materials to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Chosen artists will receive a space of 16”x24” to display their work. The final prints will be displayed as unmounted, unframed working prints. The selected artists will have a choice to print their work DIY for FREE or have their work printed through the service bureau with a 20% discount.
