Artist Residency Application
LATITUDE’s Artist Residency applications are now open for the 2020 calendar year.
DEADLINE: August 31st, 11:59pm
Since August 2012, LATITUDE has welcomed more than 70 artists to the lab as residents! We've worked alongside these artists to help them produce work for exhibitions and publications, assisting in experiments, and shared access to community and resources. In return, residents have generously lent their skills, creative experience, collaboration with staff, and programming events for our community. These programs vary from artist talks, book launches, performances, technical workshops, and off-site collaborations.
LATITUDE’s residency is ideal for artists who seek the time, space, and resources for the production and completion of existing ideas. One who is open to educational development and material experimentation would also benefit from this residency.
We are interested in anyone whose proposal makes productive use of the lab and welcome applications from artists of varied disciplines. Selected applicants will be invited for a 1-month residency at LATITUDE during 2020. If you are interested in applying for a residency with us, please read the following guidelines carefully.
If accepted, Residents receive:
No-cost access and use of the lab for 1 month. This includes: ink charges, scanning, and daily membership.
Project consultation and oversight from the Lab Director and Lab Technician.
Customized education on lab equipment, software and other production needs.
24/7 access to the lab (at the staff’s discretion, after an initial training period).
Assistance from LATITUDE staff coordinating studio visits with curators, writers, and other local artists, and event planning.
A personal workstation in the lab (desktop, small scanner, tablets), paper storage, and two flat files.
1-2 studio visits with local curators and artists (optional).
Lifetime membership to LATITUDE and 10% off ink charges in perpetuity.
Residents are expected to:
Hold open studio hours when they are available to discuss their projects and practice.
Provide one piece of public programming (e.g. a workshop, artist's talk, book launch, off-site collaboration) organized with the assistance of the LATITUDE staff.
Donate one print to LATITUDE's AIR (artist in residence) Collection.
Support LATITUDE's community and mission for open, collaborative learning.
Residents should be prepared to provide their own paper, glassine, data storage devices, packing materials, etc. We are fortunate to have good relationships with several vendors and may be able to help solicit a donation of paper or other material, but this isn't something we can guarantee.
We gladly welcome applications from artists based any/everywhere! Unfortunately, we cannot provide travel assistance or housing. Accepted applicants need to be prepared to fund their own travel and housing during their residency.
LATITUDE aims to actively support free expression of ideas, techniques, and work produced by our residents. Through collaboration, we organize a dynamic range of social, academic, and professional events dedicated to the arts, such as artist talks, pop-up exhibitions, and off-site performances. If applicants are in need of accommodation and have any accessibility questions please reach out to firstname.lastname@example.org, our Programming Fellow and/or email@example.com, our Executive Director. LATITUDE is open and willing to make this residency accessible to all.

During their one month residency, artists are given free ink, lifetime free lab access, a personal workstation, training and guidance by our staff, and an organized public event to present their new work. Residents are asked to be mentors to the community, sharing their insights and creative methods.
