In 2026, LATITUDE is celebrating 100 artists who have participated in our Artist-in-Residence program. Each resident contributes an artwork to our archive, resulting in a collection that has grown over time.
With support from the Illinois Arts Council, we are excited to begin a new phase of this archive, one focused on documentation, access, and creative engagement. As part of this work, we are offering a paid Creative Archive Internship for a young artist or emerging arts worker.
Details
This is a three-month, project-based internship that is both technical and creative. It will last from late April until late august, one 8 shift a week.
The intern will work to help rephotograph and organize our AIR archive, develop systems for how it is stored and accessed, and gain hands-on experience with professional imaging tools.
No prior experience with scanning equipment is required, we will provide training. We are looking for someone who is curious, has creative ideas on the archive and is innovative in their thinking, detail-oriented, and excited to learn.
What you’ll do
Digitize artworks using our overhead and flatbed scanners — Learn how to capture high-quality digital images of prints.
Rehouse archival materials: Label, sleeve, and store artworks in ways that support their long-term care.
Build a clear filing and documentation system. Help develop naming conventions, metadata, and digital organizational systems that make the archive accessible.
Contribute to how the archive is physically and digitally maintained and shared.
We encourage you to create a small project inspired by the artworks you encounter. Your contribution will not only support the archive’s care and accessibility but also reimagine it in a way that connects to your own creative practice, adding to the ongoing legacy of the AIR archive.
