Chicago-based artist, Nyia Sissac (she/they) is a fine art portrait photographer. Whose work is rooted in storytelling, memory, and community. She explores themes tied to the African American experiences. Using her lens to narrate the stories of family, past, present, and future. Nyia’s work serves as both an archive and a bridge, connecting generations while preserving the legacy of those who came before us. A Columbia College Alum Nyia now spends her time as a working artist. Working with Artists in Public Schools (formerly known as CPSLives), Nyia has spent her time teaching a younger generation of artists. Teaching them the fundamentals on how to take care of their mental health while also showing them the foundations of photography.
