Intro to Print: Tutoring

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

Can’t make our monthly group workshop? Sign up for an Intro To Print individual tutoring session.

This session is designed to help you feel confident printing independently and certify you on the Canon 2600, 4000 and our Epson 4900, 9000 printers at LATITUDE. 

  • During our time together, we will cover:
    ✰ Paper types (matte, glossy, and specialty options) and how to choose between them
    ✰ How to make an appointment through our online booking system
    ✰ How to track and calculate your printing costs
    ✰ Printer settings and file prep basics, including resizing and adding borders
    ✰ Trimming techniques

    ✰ Packaging best practices for safely transporting your prints

    You will leave with two ~ 8x10 prints

    Preparing for Class

    ✰ Please bring two high-resolution images roughly sized to 8x10 inches at 300 dpi.

    ✰ Bring your files on a USB drive, external hard drive, or be prepared to AirDrop if you’re using an iPhone.

This session will be approximately an hour and a half of 1:1 tutoring, you will then have the workstation and printer for an additional hour and a half to continue printing. Any prints beyond the (2) 8×10’s will be charged at our regular DIY fee.

Ash Huse / Education Coordinator

Ash (They/Them) joined Latitude as a lab assistant from 2018-2019 and joined as Interim Deputy Director in 2024. As a queer lens-based artist Ash's body of work surrounds LGBTQ+ identity through portraiture. Their work also explores themes of queerness, transformation and mental illness through abstract and experimental photographic methods using music software, text/hex editing and rephotographing images on screens. They obtained their Bachelor's Degree in Photography at Columbia College Chicago and their MFA in Fine Art Photography at Columbia College Chicago.

 

Accessibility notes: Frequent movements such as sitting at a computer workstation, standing at a printer, and trimming prints at the production table are a part of this workshop. Roll paper is loaded by staff and manual, top loading of individual sheets is optional. This workshop’s mobility can be reduced and/or limited by request. Refund Policy: For all LATITUDE courses, full payment is required to reserve your spot in the class. If you need to cancel your reservation for any reason, LATITUDE can provide a 100% refund for cancellations made 10 days prior to the start date of the course. Cancellations made with less than the 7 day notice will be given a 100% lab credit. Cancellations made within 72 hours of class run will be given a credit for 50% of the purchase price which can be used for any lab purchases, including re-enrollment, in the future. No refund for cancellations made on the start day of the course and will be considered a donation to the space.
