COURSE DESCRIPTION:

This critique series places an emphasis on alternative art spaces and how the individual’s body of work can engage with Chicago’s DIY art scene at large. Cherry Knot Crit series is a community space that centers on providing feedback around the state and direction of each participant’s body of work at any stage of the creation process. This group is for artists of all experience levels and all mediums. Through group engagement and the guidance of prompts, each participant will leave with the experience of adapting work to the limitations of space and material while growing their community.

Week 1: Cherry Knot will prompt a “Pop-up” ice breaker, and cold read critiques will begin using crit cards provided by Cherry Knot. Then introductions and socializing will take place. This will include Latitude as a space and how artists of different mediums can utilize Latitude as a community resource, as well as describe Cherry Knot. In order for everyone to receive proper feedback time we will select 2 “fruit groups” of 5 for the following 2 weeks.

Week 2: FRUIT GROUP ONE
Deep dive into 5 individual artists’ work. Each artist will have 20 minutes for feedback from the group. This structure can be flexible as each artist’s needs from the group may differ. For example, an artist may want to introduce their work and receive feedback on specific questions, while others may want another in-depth cold read. This will be decided by the artist with the help of Cherry Knot, leading/guiding the conversation.

Week 3: FRUIT GROUP TWO

This week will function the same as week 2, but with the remaining 5 artists.

Cherry Knot Crit Cards (used all 3 weeks)

- Guide for artists on how to talk about other people's work in an encouraging yet productive way

- Directs the conversation

- Gives everyone a starting point

- Allows everyone to walk away with notes from their peers

There are only 10 spots available, so make sure to sign up asap!

Tickets are on a sliding scale starting at $10.

The event will take place on Monday, April 13th, Monday, April 20th, Monday, April 27, 2026, from 5:00-8:30 pm at Latitude.
