KT Duffy
My work creates speculative ecosystems where digital technologies, mythology, and queer futurity converge. Through video, generative code, installation, sculpture, games, and extended reality, I build living worlds inhabited by entities that resist fixed identities and stable forms. Drawing from cosmic phenomena, ecological systems, and ritual, these environments challenge binaries between human and nonhuman, organic and technological, real and imagined. Rather than presenting technology as a tool of control, I use it to imagine interconnected futures grounded in transformation, emergence, and care. My practice invites audiences into immersive spaces where uncertainty becomes generative and new ways of being can take shape.
Thoughts on the lab
During my residency I was able to explore some processes and production modes that I had not previously had access to. The time and space helped be develop a 3d modeling and digital college practice that continues to this day. I was also able to experiment with some alternative printing processes and printing materials. Alternative processes and materials are now my main expertise in both my practice and pedagogy. I think this experience heavily contributed to me landing a job at a research I institution. Lastly, the community I experienced at latitude was really meaningful. I got to connect with several like minded artists in a myriad of ways, including working with the wonderful and generous staff, through studio visits, and through workshops and classes that I continued to even after my residency. One of the people I did a studio visit with is now my partner of 7 years, so big thanks to yall for that connection as well!
