During my time at Latitude, I focused on producing many series of prints that emphasize color, texture, repetition and surface.
These images are derived hand-developed color 16mm film loops created through repetitive printing processes. Each loop consists of the same sequence contact-printed under a color enlarger, generating textural variations in color negative and positive.
From these film loops, I have captured more than 7,000 still images. I sort through these stills each time I'm in the studio, organizing them into series based on the accumulation of a line or a shape unfolding over many frames.
This print is available only from September 17th - December 7th, 2026. After this date, this image will not be made available in this format again.

Sara Sowell is a visual artist and experimental filmmaker working with darkroom processes and expanded cinematic form. Her work has shown at the Chicago Film Society, Light Field (San Francisco), Curtas Vila do Conde (Porto), IFFR (Rotterdam), Microscope Gallery (New York), among other film festivals and artist-run spaces. Her films are in distribution through Light Cone, Paris.
