This piece Parchas (Passionfruit) is part of a larger photographic series entitled Frutas by the Sea. This project reflects on the Transatlantic Slave Trade and specifically Spanish colonialism within the Carribean, South America and throughout other equatorial lands with the travel of seeds. Thus, colonialism began the monopoly of food imperialism. This project arranges fruits/frutas on a canvas backdrop as a visual of this imperialism. These images are scaled, the original are scroll size (1.5ft x 13ft.) signifying the ties to crests of royalty and colonialist histories.

OLI RODRIGUEZ

Oli Rodriguez is a photographer, lens-based artist, filmmaker, writer and poet. Rodriguez embraces documentary practices, performance for video, and experimental variations. Rodriguez’s photographs include intersectional research and interdisciplinary projects conceptually dialogue in queerness, consent, sexuality, gender, appropriation, performative interactions, and visualizing familial and other representations of the AIDS pandemic.
