Still #22 from "Panacea", 2016

AIR 2019

Inkjet print on paper
8 × 10 Inches

“Panacea” is an experimental 35mm slide projection piece first created in 2016. Consisting of 32 layered and collaged color-slides, and b&w negatives. Fusing together themes of self-preservation, abstraction and one's relationship to worlds within and outside of self, the projection was presented as a live-run performance played in conjunction with a pressed recording of Nikki Giovanni's poem "Pretty Little Baby", from her 1971 album, "Truth Is On It's Way". The two-week residency at Latitude, which took place in 2019, is where the archiving of the "Panacea" first began.

This print is available only from September 17th - December 7th, 2026. After this date, this image will not be made available in this format again.

Shelby s. stone

Born and raised in the western united states, Shelby Stone is a creative practitioner whose existing realm of work functions to identify through lines between her lived experiences and an inherent generational knowledge channeling its way into a more present time and space. She leads in this pursuit while utilizing a range of material practices including photography and self-portraiture, modes of collage, sculpture, object-finding and piecing . Black cultural practices and traditions as they relate to domesticity, spirituality and relationship to natural world thematically imbue her artmaking, as does the inclination to regard these material, elemental, and visual predispositions as inheritances.

THOUGHTS ON THE LAB

It was a swift experience, which ultimately did offer a perspective in tempering expectations for timelines. It also reinforced the importance in having trust in one's own creative vision and curiosity. Gratefully, I still allow myself to be guided by these lessons.
