ZSOFI Valyi-nagy
Zsofi Valyi-Nagy is a Los-Angeles based artist and art historian who teaches at Scripps College. Her work focuses on the history of art and technology and its intersections with gender and disability. As the July 2026 AIR at Latitude, she developed “Intuitive Imaging Industries,” an installation staging the office of Dr. Fifi Robinson, a fictional West Coast healer and inventor of the Intuitive Imaging Instrument, a pseudomedical imaging machine that can “see” any ailment. This project was originally developed with support from the Leonardo CripTech AI Lab (2025), a fellowship for disabled artists critiquing, reimagining, and (re)building AI models.
THOUGHTS ON THE LAB
I am eternally grateful for my time at Latitude, where all my wildest creative dreams came true. I was not only able to experiment with printing and scanning transparencies for light boxes (my original plan for the residency) but also to stage a whole installation/exhibition that allowed me to build out the world of Dr. Fifi Robinson and Intuitive Imaging Industries. I made prints big (Pictorico window coverings to throw rainbows on the wall) and small (miniature CD jewel cases, shoutout Matilda for helping me with the measurements). [Going to get vulnerable here:] Just as Dr. Fifi strives to makes her patients feel seen, I felt seen by the Latitude staff and feel legitimized as an artist and maker after so many years of being taken seriously only for my academic work.
